Food poisoning floors 76 policemen in Afghanistan

Over 70 policemen suffered food poisoning after consuming beverages in the southern Helmand province but reported to be in stable condition, authorities said on Monday.  

Forty policemen were poisoned in a police training centre after drinking beverages purchased in a nearby bazaar, police spokesman Farid Ahmad Farhang told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The policemen are in stable condition and the case is under investigation, he added.

However, Bost Civil Hospital head Dr. Nisar Ahmad Barak said 76 policemen complaining of poisoning were admitted at the hospital and medical tests revealed they suffered from food poisoning.

In an unrelated incident, a policeman was killed and three others wounded when their vehicle overturned on Monday in the Razi area of Khashrod district, said district police chief Maj. Abdul Jalil.

And in northern Afghanistan nearly 100 students of a girls’ high school were suspected poisoned on Monday in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul.

Meanwhile, One NATO soldier was killed and two others injured in an explosion in the Adraskan district of western Herat province on Monday. Also Six policemen and five Taliban fighters were killed in separate security incidents in the central province of Uruzgan.

And two government officials in the Daulatyar district were injured in a bomb attack on Monday in the western province of Ghor.
